March 28, have bought a used Canon 300mm L f4 IS. Again. This is the third time a buy one of these. Love and hate this lens. This is a 2015 model and looks and feel like brand new.

Here is some shots from playing around with it and get used to the long focal length again. As with all Canon L lenses this is a top quality lens.

March 23, a picture of a duck, from Fredrikstad’s old town ‘gamlebyen’ today. Shot with my trusty Canon 5D camera.

I have now returned the Fujifilm X70. First of all because the focus points can fool you on the screen, it happened a lot when taking photos of objects near me. Looked like I had focus but it was focusing on the object behind. Took about 20 shots of this great Australian ‘mad max’ dog and they all turned out like this.So i’m going for a Fujifilm X100 again. Most likely a T or S. Also missed the 35mm focal lenght and optical viewfinder (OVF) from my old X100. At the moment i’m back to an old Canon S95 compact camera that I borrow. Also got bigger camera’s, DSLR’s of course. But for everyday use on the streets the Canon S95 will do the job nicely until a X100T or S is bought.

March 14, Went out to buy some black & white film for my Pentax camera today. Ended up with two rolls of ILFORD DELTA 100 Proffesional 36exp. The good stuff. In Norway one rolls of these cost 90 NKR, thats about $12 US Dollar.

698-2016-fujifilm-fuji-x70-Ulf-GregerShot with my Fujifilm X70. Exif was F8 – ISO 320 -1/500sec – he had a small teddybear hanging on he’s jacket, had to take the shot even if he saw me raising the camera.

These walks a really good for my neck and shoulders that hurts bad these days. Photography is good medicine. Picture of my old Pentax film camera and the new ILFORD film shot with Fujifilm X70.

Love this video of Gunther Holtorf

March 12, Have done about 150 shots and some video with the Fujifilm X70 so far. I like it a lot. Going to make a small review page about the Fujifilm X70. Need some more pictures worth posting, not a big fan of posting pictures of brick walls, but here is some slightly boring everyday shots for you. Hope for a good street photo day out soon. I’m not sure if I like the X70 over the X100 and X100S just yet. The Fujifilm X100 has it’s advantages over the X70 in some ways. The X70 has faster autofocus and feels faster.
685-2016-fujifilm-fuji-x70-Ulf-GregerMy Fujifilm X70, window light. Have to mention that I never have tested the Fujifilm X100T. Just X100 and X100S.

694-2016-fujifilm-fuji-x70-Ulf-GregerAs with the X100 i’m using auto ISO, 1/1000 shutterspeed and f8 aperture for street. This seems to work just fine with the X70 too. Usually got ISO 320 to ISO1600 on a cloudy day as today. This is a snapshot from today. Just to show what you can excpect from the Fujifilm X70 as a street camera.

695-2016-fujifilm-fuji-x70-Ulf-GregerHigh ISO. No problem at all with Fujifilm X70. This is JPG was shot at ISO 1600 with the Fujifilm X70 and it’s very good. Clean and the little grain there is looks almost as film grain. Wonderful high ISO files. You can shoot this all day long with ISO 1600 and no worries.

So far I think it’s a fun camera to use. It’s fast and the small size makes it easy to always carry with me. But can’t help wondering if I should return it for a X100T. Have to make up my mind very soon. Every picture yet is JPG SOOC ( straight out of camera ) Have not shot a single frame RAW yet. Fujifilm has wonderful JPG’s. Thank you for reading, notice I got a lot of visitors on my blog now. If you want to contact me feel free to do so about anything regarding my photography, ulfgreger2008@gmail.com.

Lots of inspiration to be found watching the old masters on youtube

March 9, got my new street camera yesterday. The Fujifilm X70. Not done more than a few test shots so far but the images looks great, far better than Ricoh GR for sure. ( Make no mistake, I loved the Ricoh GR ) It’s fast focusing too, even at economy mode where I left it. The Fuji X70 is pretty heavy and has a quality feeling about it. All metal and a good rubber grip, smaller than expected. Fits nicely in all my jacket pockets. 683-2016-fujifilm-fuji-x70-Ulf-GregerI think this is going to be a good little pocket camera to alway carry with me. Going to post more images and some video samples as soon as possible. So far it’s very promising. My old trusty Gordy Strap has survived five pocket cameras so far.

March 8, took only this shot today.

March 4, some snow, wind and cold weather. Took an two hours walk in the city to do some street photography. My back and neck hurts like a son of a *** these days and walking is the best medicine for me. Took about ten shots in total. This is what I love about street photography. Some days you can get 10 good shots, other days nothing. This was not a good day but fun anyway. Had to use very high ISO to keep my shutterspeed up today. Here is some shots from this day. My old Gordy strap has survived five pocket cameras now. Love that camera strap.

676-2016-Ulf-GregerUsed my Canon 5D today. Can’t wait to get my Fujifilm X70. I’m getting it wednesday March 8. Also ordered a couple of extra batterys from ebay.

March 1. Still cold and windy here in Norway. About pocket cameras I placed a order for a Fujifilm X70 instead of buying a Fujifilm X100 S or T. Not sure yet if 28mm will work. But can always buy a X100 S/T later on if I miss 35mm too much with the pocket camera. Loved the Ricoh GR so I think the 28mm wil do just fine. Anyway I have my 35mm Carl Zeiss lens for my Canon 5D when I need that focal length for more serious work..

I have maxed out my storage limit on my website. With my webhotel ISP here in Norway 1GB is the limit of their cheap webhotels. Not very much and hope they raise their storage limit to at least 2GB. So from here I will firstly delete many of my old blogpost and pictures that contains large files and just post small 1000x800px images in this format as the picture above.

Otherwise I like my website as it is. Fast and simple with lot of my own code and tagging. I’m using a laptop using Linux operating system with LAMP ( linux, apache, MySql and PhP ) to make websites with WP cms. Works like a dream and even if I make big fancy websites for others with slides and colors I like my own website to be simple and clean.

681-2016-Ulf-GregerOnly our true friends will ever see the irony in this picture.

1000-Ulf-Greger-Ricoh-GRSome shots from back in 2013 when I helped my father clearing forest on he’s property after a heavy storm. Ricoh GR
self-portrait--Ulf-Greger-Ricoh-GR Self portrait – Ulf Greger. Actually not a selfie, was just me clicking away to test the art filters of the Ricoh GR. This was the high contrast B&W filter.

My camera bag right now. Today I’m sending my Fuji X100 away to it’s new owner. This has been one of my best street cameras ever. My three Ricoh GR’s I’ve had past fifteen years or so comes close or was better in some areas. Anyway time for a new ‘my streetphoto to go bag’ picture. Last one with my Fujifilm camera.
20150327_075932
My bag is my solid Domke F2. It’s waxed and pretty waterproof. From left upper corner :
ThinkTank waterproof bag cover, use this in heavy snow and rain.
ThinkTank waterproof memory card holder with some CF and SD cards.
Canon 5D with some duct tape to mask the logo’s and a 80’s old worn camera strap.
Two extra Canon batteries. I dont use the LCD screen much so get about 1400 shots each.
ND filters.
Fujifilm X100 Black Edition .
Carl Zeiss 2/35 T* Distagon ZE. Easy my best lens for Canon.
Gordy Strap.
A gorillapod tripod. This actually carries my 5D with Zeiss 35mm.
Extra Fujifilm batteries.
Canon 270 EX external flash. Low weight and a solid flash.

So this was by street bag March 27. Also have a small ThinkTank bag for ultralight travel ( Canon 5D / Zeiss 35mm only ) and a big bag for outdoors portraits with all my big speedlights, gels, portrait lenses and radio triggers. This Domke bag is what I use 80% of the time. Sorry about low quality picture of the bag and gear. Had to shoot it with my Samsung phone. Going to add a better picture shot with my 5D soon. Obviously that shot are not showing my 5D 🙂

411-Ulf-Greger-canon-5D-IIIHere is the shot with the 5D. My Pentax ME film camera replaced the 5D spot for this shot.

395-Ulf-Greger-canon-5D-IIIStreet photography…..or a really bad dog portrait. Canon 5D

396-Ulf-Greger-canon-5D-IIIMarch 20,  there was a solar eclipse today. Handheld shot just to have done it. Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM, f 11 1/4000 and ND filter.

March 12. Bought a new lens today. The Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM. I already have a wonderful 35mm for full frame, my Carl Zeiss Distagon 2/35 ZE.
Main purpose for my new 35mm is street photography and some video work where IS and AF is nice to have sometimes.

382-Ulf-Greger-canon-5D-IIIThis was my first street shot with Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM. Think this was a cool shot with lots of detail.

Autofocus is very quick and I think this lens performs very well. Also going to publish some videos to show just how good the IS performs and do a small review of this lens. I noticed some improvement with IS on with handheld video on the 5D mk III. If you own a crop sensor Canon camera, the IS are going to help even more with video.

0O9A0366One of my first shot with Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM. Had to test it before buying at my local camera store, Japan Photo in Fredrikstad. Exif is :  1/250 sec – f4,5 -ISO 640 – Exposure Compensation +2/3. I usually always do some PP in PS or LR but this is from RAW file straight from Canon DPP 4.

The IS and AF felt good, image quality great so a brand new Canon lens was bought. I usually only buy used gear but I felt is was time for a brand new 35 in my bag. This lens feels sharper than the Canon 35mm 1.4 L. The 35 2.0 IS USM looks sharper throughout the frame than the 1.4L at f2. At f4, on both lenses they are equal sharpness I think but the CA was worse on the 1.4L. I have not compared them side by side, sold my 35L a long time ago. But looking at old shots the Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM feels sharper. Also smaller, lighter weight and faster to focus. The Zeiss Distagon 2/35 ZE has a slight advantage in image quality I think so far. Better bokeh for sure. For pros and cons on the 35mm focal lenght with Canon the Canon 35 L do have f1,4 and the Zeiss 35 dont have AF. I think 35mm f/2 IS is the best everyday use lens if you love 35mm on your fullframe Canon camera.

I think it is justifiable for me to have both Zeiss 2/35 and Canon 35 f2 IS, as they present images differently and offer a different user experience. I love to use 35mm on FF and use that focal length very much for street photography. For portraits I think 85mm-135mm works best. The only downside so far with my Canon 35 f2 IS is that I wish it was faster. f1,8 would have been perfect.

Forgot about the Sigma 35mm 1,4 Art. Have owned this lens twice. AF problems and other problems with it. The Sigma 35 not a lens for me. I only use gear I can trust 100%.

379-Ulf-Greger-canon-5D-III
Another shot from the camera store. Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM. Performs good wide open. At f2,8 this lens is razor sharp. Have got some emails with complaints about no exif data in my pictures. From now on full exif in every published picture that is about gear review.

383-Ulf-Greger-canon-5D-III
A bokeh shot when getting home. Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM.

386-Ulf-Greger-canon-5D-IIINight skies test with Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM. I actually dont know anything about shooting stars at night so…high ISO, tripod and about 15 sec was a wild guess. Going to read about it and give a better try at a nice location by the sea not far from my house.

385-Ulf-Greger-canon-5D-IIIHanheld shot in my car. One thing I like about the Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM is that it focuses really close. This was about 20 centimeters I think.

384-Ulf-Greger-canon-5D-IIIHandheld test shot with poor lighting. The Image Stabilizer i damn good. Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM. With the Canon 5D mk III the autofocus is reliable and fast in low light. This is going to be great for low light street photography.

378-Ulf-Greger-canon-5D-III
A street photo shot outside the camera store before buying the 35 IS. Shot with a borrowed Canon 50mm 1.8 II. A lens I like very much.

332-Ulf-Greger-Carl-Zeiss-canon-5D-IIIHad a fun photoshoot using Canon 5D and Carl Zeiss 35mm and 100mm’s yesterday. A Norwegian military bandana on the model just for fun. This was shot with two radio trigged flashes. One from behind with orange gel and one in front with no gel.

Here is the model in the military bandana shot’s, Sissel.
