March 28, have bought a used Canon 300mm L f4 IS. Again. This is the third time a buy one of these. Love and hate this lens. This is a 2015 model and looks and feel like brand new.

Here is some shots from playing around with it and get used to the long focal length again. As with all Canon L lenses this is a top quality lens.

March 23, a picture of a duck, from Fredrikstad’s old town ‘gamlebyen’ today. Shot with my trusty Canon 5D camera.

I have now returned the Fujifilm X70. First of all because the focus points can fool you on the screen, it happened a lot when taking photos of objects near me. Looked like I had focus but it was focusing on the object behind. Took about 20 shots of this great Australian ‘mad max’ dog and they all turned out like this.So i’m going for a Fujifilm X100 again. Most likely a T or S. Also missed the 35mm focal lenght and optical viewfinder (OVF) from my old X100. At the moment i’m back to an old Canon S95 compact camera that I borrow. Also got bigger camera’s, DSLR’s of course. But for everyday use on the streets the Canon S95 will do the job nicely until a X100T or S is bought.

March 14, Went out to buy some black & white film for my Pentax camera today. Ended up with two rolls of ILFORD DELTA 100 Proffesional 36exp. The good stuff. In Norway one rolls of these cost 90 NKR, thats about $12 US Dollar.

698-2016-fujifilm-fuji-x70-Ulf-GregerShot with my Fujifilm X70. Exif was F8 – ISO 320 -1/500sec – he had a small teddybear hanging on he’s jacket, had to take the shot even if he saw me raising the camera.

These walks a really good for my neck and shoulders that hurts bad these days. Photography is good medicine. Picture of my old Pentax film camera and the new ILFORD film shot with Fujifilm X70.

Love this video of Gunther Holtorf

March 12, Have done about 150 shots and some video with the Fujifilm X70 so far. I like it a lot. Going to make a small review page about the Fujifilm X70. Need some more pictures worth posting, not a big fan of posting pictures of brick walls, but here is some slightly boring everyday shots for you. Hope for a good street photo day out soon. I’m not sure if I like the X70 over the X100 and X100S just yet. The Fujifilm X100 has it’s advantages over the X70 in some ways. The X70 has faster autofocus and feels faster.
685-2016-fujifilm-fuji-x70-Ulf-GregerMy Fujifilm X70, window light. Have to mention that I never have tested the Fujifilm X100T. Just X100 and X100S.

688-2016-fujifilm-fuji-x70-Ulf-GregerShot with Fujifilm X70. My Klipsch Heritage loudspeakers, the Heresy III.

694-2016-fujifilm-fuji-x70-Ulf-GregerAs with the X100 i’m using auto ISO, 1/1000 shutterspeed and f8 aperture for street. This seems to work just fine with the X70 too. Usually got ISO 320 to ISO1600 on a cloudy day as today. This is a snapshot from today. Just to show what you can excpect from the Fujifilm X70 as a street camera.

695-2016-fujifilm-fuji-x70-Ulf-GregerHigh ISO. No problem at all with Fujifilm X70. This is JPG was shot at ISO 1600 with the Fujifilm X70 and it’s very good. Clean and the little grain there is looks almost as film grain. Wonderful high ISO files. You can shoot this all day long with ISO 1600 and no worries.

So far I think it’s a fun camera to use. It’s fast and the small size makes it easy to always carry with me. But can’t help wondering if I should return it for a X100T. Have to make up my mind very soon. Every picture yet is JPG SOOC ( straight out of camera ) Have not shot a single frame RAW yet. Fujifilm has wonderful JPG’s. Thank you for reading, notice I got a lot of visitors on my blog now. If you want to contact me feel free to do so about anything regarding my photography, ulfgreger2008@gmail.com.

Lots of inspiration to be found watching the old masters on youtube

March 9, got my new street camera yesterday. The Fujifilm X70. Not done more than a few test shots so far but the images looks great, far better than Ricoh GR for sure. ( Make no mistake, I loved the Ricoh GR ) It’s fast focusing too, even at economy mode where I left it. The Fuji X70 is pretty heavy and has a quality feeling about it. All metal and a good rubber grip, smaller than expected. Fits nicely in all my jacket pockets. 683-2016-fujifilm-fuji-x70-Ulf-GregerI think this is going to be a good little pocket camera to alway carry with me. Going to post more images and some video samples as soon as possible. So far it’s very promising. My old trusty Gordy Strap has survived five pocket cameras so far.

March 8, took only this shot today.

March 4, some snow, wind and cold weather. Took an two hours walk in the city to do some street photography. My back and neck hurts like a son of a *** these days and walking is the best medicine for me. Took about ten shots in total. This is what I love about street photography. Some days you can get 10 good shots, other days nothing. This was not a good day but fun anyway. Had to use very high ISO to keep my shutterspeed up today. Here is some shots from this day. My old Gordy strap has survived five pocket cameras now. Love that camera strap.

676-2016-Ulf-GregerUsed my Canon 5D today. Can’t wait to get my Fujifilm X70. I’m getting it wednesday March 8. Also ordered a couple of extra batterys from ebay.

March 1. Still cold and windy here in Norway. About pocket cameras I placed a order for a Fujifilm X70 instead of buying a Fujifilm X100 S or T. Not sure yet if 28mm will work. But can always buy a X100 S/T later on if I miss 35mm too much with the pocket camera. Loved the Ricoh GR so I think the 28mm wil do just fine. Anyway I have my 35mm Carl Zeiss lens for my Canon 5D when I need that focal length for more serious work..

I have maxed out my storage limit on my website. With my webhotel ISP here in Norway 1GB is the limit of their cheap webhotels. Not very much and hope they raise their storage limit to at least 2GB. So from here I will firstly delete many of my old blogpost and pictures that contains large files and just post small 1000x800px images in this format as the picture above.

Otherwise I like my website as it is. Fast and simple with lot of my own code and tagging. I’m using a laptop using Linux operating system with LAMP ( linux, apache, MySql and PhP ) to make websites with WP cms. Works like a dream and even if I make big fancy websites for others with slides and colors I like my own website to be simple and clean.

This is just my blog – sharing my latest shots weekly and maybe write something about what lenses or cameras I used. This is not a portfolio in any way. These days I use my Canon full frame camera with Zeiss lenses ranging from 35mm to 100mm, and a Fuji X-E2 with only one lens the 35mm.

July 4. Nice and hot weather here in Norway now. Fishing mackerel, swimming and picking wild strawberries not far from my house.

The dog gets walks to the beach every day. She loves to swim. Hvaler is a group of small islands and a good place to live. Can be rough during the winter storms but rest of the year it’s heaven.

July 24 : My car update :
Have finally bought all the tools I needed to remove the broken parts from the merc. Bought a new torx/ hex key /wrench set and a new 2.5 ton service jack. Had two worn out 2 ton jacks that needed to be replaced. The merc is going to be on the road again in a week or two. Just have to buy the drive belt /serptine belt and a new fuel line.

July 20 : My car update :
Since last time I logged in my merc has ‘sort of’ broken down. The drive belt /serptine belt did go out with a bang as one of the wheels holding it broke and took a fuel pipe with it, just to make sure this car was not going anywhere soon 🙂 This can be a problem to fix.. so the merc is sent to my garage for some weeks. I bought me a cheap 2005 model Toyota RAV4 today with 170.000km on the meter to have something to drive. Pretty stuck out here on this remote place without a car. This is a tough little 4×4, five seater. After reading online about what car that had the best reliability, Toyota was the answer. It’s a 2.0 diesel with manual transmission. That should be the most reliable combo for this type of Toyota. So far I like this Toyota and i’m going to keep it. But also looking forward to fix my merc, need some new tools. Torx set and so on. And I also need to find the parts I need after I have dismantled the broken parts.

July 10 : My car for the moment is a beaten up merc E class 2000 model. It’s not pretty or highend but gets the job done. It’s a station wagon that have about 350.000 km ( 217.479 miles if i converted the numbers right..in Norway we use the metric system ) on it.

Have had this as my only car for about 5-6 years now with no problems other than rust ( lots of rust ) and changing service parts like exhaust , shock absorbers, springs, brakes and so on. A big, good reliable car with lots of space. The owner before me was my father and the car has never had any serious problems at all.

Here is my car, and a friend thats most likely telling a joke about it.

So why do I want to write about my car…sounds pretty boring..? I have my whole life loved cars. Have had Porsche 944, BMW M5, and Chevy Camaro classic muscle cars and so on.

But with the bad norwegian roads, rough winters and my photo and fishing roadtrips that many times every year end at places like Gausdal, Rena and so on with rough tractor roads I do want a 4×4. It’s time for a 4×4 again – but i’m keeping the merc.

My father told me stories about he’s work in Africa in the 70’s and showed me pictures from the Land Rover’s they used. They crossed rivers and helped big trucs stuck in mud with them. And the idea of buying a Land Rover for myself was born. Yes it took many years to realize that a 4×4 is the way to go.

My very first Land Rover was a Series III 109. Have not found the pictures of it yet as it was analog film back then. But I know I got them somewhere so pictures will come.DSC00707
Here is an old picture of a friend with one of he’s Series III Land Rover’s so you get the idea of what my old 1975 Land Rover Series III car looked like. Not far from a 2015 model Land Rover Defender actually. Then I bought a Land Rover Freelander.

So far I count :

1 x Land Rover Series III 109 petrol
1 x Land Rover Defender 110 300TDI Diesel
1 x Land Rover Freelander 1.8 petrol
1 x Land Rover Defender 90 TD5 Diesel
1 x Land Rover Defender 110 TD5 Diesel
6 x RRC – Land Rover Range Rovers, all petrol V8’s 3.5 and 3.9 L

Got a friend, Alf that also loves classic Land Rovers and he’s got 3 x Series Land Rovers and 3 x RRC ( Range Rover Classic’s ).
Here is an old picture from back when I owned my first RRC and Alf repaired on one of he’s Series Land Rovers.

Saturday, market day in old town Fredrikstad. A lot of fun old things to buy, and a lot of new china crap that was supposed to look old.

Specially liked the Mexcio made Russian replica pictures. Great effort was made to make them look old. Also very the nice the man who sold them. He told me they was new and he had met the artist that makes them.

474-Ulf-Greger-Canon-5DOh yeah…got to test the new nifty fifty. The brand new 2015 model Canon 50mm 1.8 STM. Love those cheap and light Canon lenses. Great value for money.
Picture shot with the new lens, the old mk II model in the picture with old lens cap. This one is going to be great for video with the new silent STM motor. STM AF Motor Supports Movie Servo AF. It now got manual focus Override ! Better quality feel and Metal Lens Mount. Rounded 7 blade diaphragm, was 5 on the old one. Much better minimum focus distance. Almost as cheap as the old one.

Some snapshots from Fuji X-E2 that I normally would delete. Anyway, snapshots from a sunday.

Fuji-X-E2-00017-Ulf-GregerThe Fuji X-E2 has an advanced filter option I never had tested before. Think it’s override the film filter that was Astia Soft at the moment. Shot at f1.4 with my only Fuji lens, the 35mm f.1,4. This was jpg SOOC. The advanced filter ( under drive menu ) used was SOFT FOCUS. Converted to B&W.

Fuji-X-E2-00008-Ulf-GregerMay 30 heavy rain, Hvaler, Norway.
Fuji-X-E2-00009-Ulf-GregerFrom a shopping trip to Stromstad, Sweden yesterday.

May 28.
Got me a homemade camera strap as a gift. It’s made of military paracord / parachute cord. So I guess it should be strong enough to deal with my Fuji X-E2.
I also have several paracord bracelets including one with a small compass. Like them a lot and use them everyday.
460-Ulf-Greger-Canon-5DMaybe the camera strap is too big for everyday use on this lightweight camera but I am going to use it for some weeks. So far I like it a lot. If I think it’s too big I will put it on my Canon 5D for sure.

Japan Camera Hunter is now on youtube. Love the JCH website so I have high hopes for this channel.

Do not usually post HD wallpaper size on my blog but these show off the quality of Zeiss lenses so maybe some Chevrolet / belair / Volvo Duett / PV / fordson / tractor / car fans would like to wallpaper them. Fullsize is 1920 x 1280.

451small-sign-Ulf-Greger-Canon-5DMay 22. The picture above was shot in my small home studio some years ago. Carl Zeiss 85mm lens and Canon 5D.
May 21. Have done a complete backup of all my digital pictures since 2001 ( the year I got my first digital camera – was still also shooting film back then ). So I’m posting some random shots looking through them. I dont use Lightroom anymore. After Canon DPP have grown so good I feel I get better result with DPP and Photoshop. That have become my prefered way to work anyway. So my backup is just organized RAW&JPG files. No database. One folder for every year and every month in the year folder. Easy and rock solid way that works great for me. One of the backup disks is kept safe out of my house. Feels nice to be on track with a complete backup.

448-Ulf-Greger-Canon-5D449-Ulf-Greger-Canon-5DTwo old pictures shot with Canon 20D. First one with new photoshop edit. The Canon 20D I had before was bought secondhand from a pro. It had battlescars and scratches. Had gone 100.000 + clicks on the shutter when I bought it. Anyway I used it for three years, in hot summers, snowstorms and cold Norwegian winters. Never failed once.

450-Ulf-Greger-Canon-5DThis one was shot a couple of years ago with my Carl Zeiss 35mm 2/35 t* Distagon ZE lens on a Canon 5D. The images shot with the Zeiss lens shines when converted to black and white. Same thing with the images from the Zeiss Makro-Planar lenses.

I usually do not recommend movies. But this is so good that I thought to do one exception.. 1,000 Times Good Night from 2014. Had never seen this movie before today. Absolutely a good movie well worth to watch.

From Wikipedia, plot : Rebecca (Binoche) is a photo journalist obsessed with reporting in dangerous war zones. She documents a group of female suicide bombers in Afghanistan. She accompanies one of the suicide bombers to Kabul, where the premature detonation of the bomb severely injures her. While recuperating at her home in Ireland, she is confronted by her husband Marcus (Coster-Waldau) and her daughter Steph (Lauryn Canny), who force her to choose between covering war zones, or her family. She chooses her family.
Steph is intrigued by her mother’s photographs and interested in humanitarian work in Africa, so Rebecca proposes a photography trip with her daughter to a refugee camp in Kenya.

Fuji-X-E2--00001-Ulf-GregerMay 16. Finally had some time to test my new camera. The Fujifilm X-E2 with the XF35mmF1.4 R lens. Have been a huge fan of Fujifilm forever. So of course I love it.

I think this is even better than my old Fujifilm X100. Have done some boring shots at my kitchen table. No flash was used in any of these shots.

Exif is included as text in every picture and all are from RAW files. Had to download Adobe DNG converter to convert the RAF/RAW to DNG, but that was free and no hassle at all.
Fuji-X-E2--00003-Ulf-GregerThis 100-400 L Canon lens is borrowed from a friend. This actual lens have been in Africa twice. A good and expensive lens.

Having also tested the X-E2 with video and it’s far better than X100 ( classic ). Love everything about this Fuji so far. The jpg’s are awesome.
Fuji-X-E2--00004-Ulf-GregerThis is my best lens ever for Canon, my Zeiss Distagon 2/35 ZE. Resting on my laptop PC running Linux.

Boring pictures but fun to show the off the good colors and sharpness of this Fuji. Both camera and lens is AWESOME. Hope to get to use it more and I’m going to use it at a portrait shoot some time soon. My Canon gear is also going to be used that day of course. So maybe I’ll do some comparison with the Fuji setup VS Canon /Zeiss setup.
